How To Appreciate What You Have And Find Happiness Within
“Plant seeds of happiness, hope, success, and love; it will all come back to you in abundance. This is the law of nature.”
– Steve Maraboli
Did You Know You Are Already Full Of Abundance?
No matter who you are, where you grew up, or what your current situation is, you are, and always have been, abundant. This is because you were born into a universe where resources of every kind abound!
But how do we learn to even notice, and appreciate this abundance in order to attract even more? Follow these top tips to increase your odds for success and discover how to appreciate what you have and find happiness within. Plus, learn that you already have the tools you need to live the life of your dreams.
4 Ways To Find Happiness Within
1. Look To Nature
Just ask yourselves these questions:
- Is there any limit to the sun’s ability to provide energy, light, or heat?
- Any daily quota on the air we need to live?
- In fact, for all that science now understands, have we yet discovered an end to the universe in which we live?
If you look anywhere in nature, you will find countless demonstrations that we live in a world of unlimited energy, and therefore, unlimited abundance.
All of life is energy: Love is energy. Happiness is energy. Money is energy. The only restrictions on the amount of any of these states of being that any one of us capable of experiencing are those we impose upon ourselves.
2. Learn To Focus And Find Happiness Within
The universe is so abundant that it will deliver us a wealth of whatever we place our attention on. If we focus on abundance, we’ll attract more of it. And if we focus fiercely enough on scarcity, we have the power to create the experience of lack.
Think for a moment about the 7 billion people who are currently inhabiting this dimension of time and space where sensory experience is possible.
As you consider how many people of all ages, value systems and backgrounds are living out their lives here on planet Earth, how many different versions of “reality” do you imagine are being experienced among those 7 billion people? Their experiences fall upon a very dramatic continuum. Some are surrounded by every imaginable manifestation of abundance, while others are toiling and struggling and still never have enough.
How can we account for this dramatic variance in the quality of our life experiences?
Certainly, the conditions in which we find ourselves have something to do with our degree of happiness or misery.
However, the question almost no one has stepped far enough back to ask is: how do those conditions come into our experience in the first place?
I’m going to suggest that abundance is one of an infinite number of life experiences that is possible for each one of us to realize and that it unfolds for us when we become willing to direct our attention to finding evidence for it.
3. Reevaluate Your Thought Patterns
What we see when we look at the circumstances our lives is not “reality”. Instead, it’s our perception of reality filtered through the lens of our beliefs. Some beliefs place us in direct alignment with the abundance we desire whilst others prevent it from reaching us all together.
For example, if we hold a belief that resources are scarce and that creating wealth means sacrificing a personal life, or that past hardships will hold us back from creating future happiness, these beliefs will filter out of our lives the abundance that is our birthright.
It’s as if we are standing the edge of a lush river that is swollen and rushing with fresh water and we have only a thimble to carry it. Like a river, abundance travels along our path of least resistance. Water can’t penetrate the areas where opposing beliefs have forged a dam, so it simply takes another course and goes around the rocks.
By shifting our beliefs and affirming that there is more than enough of everything to go around. We are inherently deserving and valuable and that it’s absolutely possible to make an abundance of money doing something we love! We enlarge the space within us that allows us to receive.
Appreciating all that is currently present in your experience is the key to shifting your beliefs about what is possible for your future.
Look around your life right as it exists at this moment… You are certain to discover countless realities that you are now living that were once nebulous “one-day” goals.
Maybe it's the house you are living in, the relationships you have with friends and loved ones or even the career expression you are now living was once something that existed only as an idea or a far-out dream.
Remember that there are so many aspects of yourself and your life that are already going amazingly well! Most of these sustain themselves with absolutely no effort on your part. You just need to find happiness within yourself.
The fact that you have plenty of air to breathe, water to drink and food to eat… That is cause for appreciation!
That you live in some proximity to Nature’s beauty and were born with five distinct senses that allow you to receive it… That is cause for appreciation!
That you are a unique individual, here with a unique purpose! And that you are passionately interested in your own process of self-discovery… That is cause for appreciation!
The energy of appreciation is one of the most attractive in all the universe. When we are appreciated by another, we feel seen, safe, validated, and inspired to do, be, and give even more. But in appreciating someone or something else, we generate this same level of high-frequency emotions within ourselves. This is because we cannot appreciate our surroundings without bathing ourselves in its abundant energy.
As Voltaire, the 17th-century French writer and historian pointed out:
Appreciation is a wonderful thing: It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well.
